Heavy fog descended across the UAE overnight, stretching from Abu Dhabi city on the coast all the way to the southern border. Forecasters at the National Centre of Meteorology issued an alert and police reduced speed limits on several major roads as visibility fell below 1,000 metres. The murky weather is expected to last until about 10.30am. There will be a significant drop in temperatures and a rise in humidity throughout the week that will contribute to early morning fog, forecasters said. UAE residents have woken up to thick fog several times over the past week, with police reducing speed limits to prevent road accidents during morning commutes. The traffic rule, introduced in Abu Dhabi in 2019, means speed limits are capped at 80kph whenever visibility is poor. Heavy vehicles are also suspended from driving during bouts of bad weather. Foggy mornings can be expected until the weekend, with winds of up to 40kph forecast on Tuesday. Cooler temperatures will persist, with lows of 8°C in the interior, 5°C in the mountains and 13°C along the coast. Maximum temperatures will peak at 26°C in coastal areas, 29°C inland and 19°C in the mountains. It will be partly cloudy, while the rough seas expected on Tuesday should become calm by the weekend.
