UAE weather alert: rough seas along east coast lead to road closures

Wind speeds may reach up to 38kph and waves could reach 7 feet

The UAE is set for a mainly sunny Tuesday, but the weather bureau has issued an alert about rough conditions in the Sea of Oman.

Waves could reach as high as 7 feet along the east coast, the National Centre of Meteorology said.

The authorities urged residents in the eastern regions to avoid beach visits during the unstable weather.

Roads in Sharjah and Fujairah were closed in the early hours of Tuesday after high waves caused flooding in both emirates.

The roads running alongside the corniche areas in Khor Fakkan and Kalba were cordoned off after high waves breached the barriers and flooded the streets.

The Twitter account @storm_centre shared a video of rising waters flooding the street on what appears to be the UAE’s east coast.

Conditions are set to be a little calmer in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as temperatures are expected to cool slightly from the beginning of the week.

Abu Dhabi can expect a top temperature of 37°C today and Dubai will experience a maximum of 36°C, the NCM said.

The weather will become more humid in the west of the UAE by night and Wednesday morning.

Winds may reach speeds of up to 38kph in mountainous regions.

In some parts of the country, particularly in coastal regions, humidity levels are expected to hit as high as 75 per cent, the weather bureau said.
