DUBAI // Steps to build on the country’s renewable energy efforts and to address the county’s waste problem have been tackled at a meeting in the emirate.

The nationally assigned team tasked to examine and implement the country’s waste-to-energy initiative, led by Engineer Yousef Al Rayssi, director of waste management, held its first meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Environment and Water in Dubai, according to state news agency WAM.

The initiative aims to achieve a 75 per cent decrease in waste treatment, which falls in line with the goals of UAE Vision 2021.

The waste-to-energy project will initially cover the waste treatment of the municipal solid wastes (MSW). Expected to be launched in the next two years, the project is expected to become one of the most prominent environmental projects in the region.
