The UAE recorded single digit temperatures on Sunday as the cold snap continued. Commuters in Dubai and Abu Dhabi donned hoodies and padded jackets as they made their way to work. Al Ain experienced the lowest temperatures, dipping to 7°C early on Sunday, the National Centre of Meterology said. As The National reported at the weekend, outside the city the mercury hit minus 2°C overnight on Friday. Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah also experienced lows of 8°C and 9°C on Sunday by 8am, rising to 11°C and 13°C in Dubai. Humidity was low at 20 per cent. The centre forecast another chilly few days ahead and warned of fog in some areas. Cold weather is common at this time of year and retailers have already seen a run on cold weather clothing, with light jackets and hoodies among the most popular. At Max, a fashion retail store under the Landmark Group, warm loungewear was flying off the shelves. “December definitely spiked in terms of winter wear, nights, and some days, are getting cooler and people definitely need an additional layer of warmth,” said Hans van den Broecke, apparel buying head at Max. “It is the time of the year for jackets, coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and all kinds of cosy loungewear products. “Popular items have been puffa jackets, PU jackets, chunky sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleecy jumpers and PJs.”
