Record year for breeding Houbaras in UAE

DUBAI // A breeding programme to save a threatened bird from extinction has enjoyed a record breaking year.

A total of 40,340 Houbara bustards were breed this year, an increase of 31 per cent from last year.

“This year’s record production provides another boost in our efforts to provide a sustainable future for the Houbara,” said Mohammed Saleh Al Baidani, director general of International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IHFC).

“The experience and knowledge we have gained over many years studying the ecology of the Houbara has been fed into our captive breeding programme enabling the fund to reach new heights.”

Their conservation work will be on display at Adihex 2013, at Adnec from today.
