RAK to target marine offenders

The Public Works and Services Department of Ras Al Khaimah is to launch a monitoring service to prevent overfishing and other environmental offences that harm marine life.

Ahmed Al Hammadi, director general of the department, said that the “Raqib Al Khiran” service would monitor fishing in Khor Ras Al Khaimah first and later expand to the rest of the Al Khiran region.

He also said that staff from the department would use jet skis to cover all of Al Khiran. Three patrols will be deployed to record any breaches in Al Khiran and fine offenders.
