UMM AL QUWAIN // Four wild dogs attacked a farm in Kaber on Monday night, killing 11 cattle.
There were 50 animals on the farm at the time of the attack, owner Mohammed Jassem Khamis told Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National. Most of the cattle that were attacked were pregnant.
The farm’s watchman was woken up by the noise and rushed to the farm to try to save the animals. He was able to kill three of the dogs while the fourth attacked him before fleeing.
Besides the animals killed, nine others sustained severe injuries and will probably die, according to vets.
The cost of the dead animals is estimated at Dh30,000.
Mr Khamis said this was not the first time wild dogs had attacked livestock on his farm.
