LED lights to be installed in Dubai street lights to save energy

The move will start in Al Barsha South and will expand as part of a three-year project.

DUBAI // Street lights on roads in Al Barsha South will use LED lights in an energy-saving experiment to begin in August.

The Roads and Transport Authority aims to save 380,368 kilowatt hour per annum and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 163.6 tonnes each year.

The RTA later plans to expand the project to Al Rashidiya and Nad Shamma. Traffic signals are already being replaced with LED lights as part of a three-year project.

“Work is up-and-running to replace lights of the existing traffic signals gradually with LED lights, enabling the saving of about one million kilowatt per annum and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 430 tonnes per annum following the full completion of the project,” said Maitha bin Udai, chief executive of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
