A large family-friendly park has opened in Al Ain, with extensive walkways and an eating area. Al Hayer Oasis, in the northern area of Al Ain City, spans 25,500 square metres and has more than 2,000 square metres of paths for visitors to stroll along. The project, completed by the municipality at a cost of Dh1.7 million ($462,800), aims to promote family time and bring parents, grandparents and children together, said officials. There is a focus on landscaping, with a variety of local plants interspersed throughout the area, including palm trees. Aflaj, ancient water irrigation trenches, line the outskirts of the oasis and provide water for the vegetation within the park. Mohammad Al Muhairi, director of parks and recreation department at Al Hayer Municipality Centre, said the oasis project is part of a strategy to make optimal use of outdoor space to create welcoming spots for families to gather and entertain among nature. Several recreational facilities have been added to separate sites within the oasis, fitted out with umbrellas and seating areas. Food kiosks are dotted inside and outside the park to cater to visitors and passing motorists.
