Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has shut down a food factory in Al Ain for failing to maintain the quality of food it produces. Taibat Al Emarat Factory, with licence number IN-1001465, failed to meet health and food safety standards and has not maintained the hygiene levels, according to a report by <em>Khaleej Times.</em> Multiple violations were issued to the factory for flouting food safety rules, the authority said. It was issued three offences in 2019 over insects found at the production unit. Operations will remain suspended until the facility meets quality standards under strict UAE laws. The food safety authority monitors and controls food safety and hygiene laws. The authority carries out campaigns to spread awareness and conducts regular checks to keep a tab on safety regulations. Last month it <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/uae/health/abu-dhabi-grocery-store-closed-after-string-of-health-breaches-1.955502">shut down a baqala for "selling meat and fish of unknown origin"</a>. Restaurants and food outlets breaching food safety rules can be hit with fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh200,000. Individuals and companies can also be prosecuted with a jail term.
