March
One of the most important developments of 2012 for Dubai Municipality was the introduction of its recycling programme in March.
"My City, My Environment" was introduced in Nad Al Hamar, and Mizhar 1 and 2, and residents saved more than 500 tonnes of waste in the first three months by using the new recycling bins supplied by the municipality.
The civic body also announced plans to build a crocodile park in the emirate. The attraction will be built next to the new zoo, Safari Dubai. The park will be home to 100 crocodiles from 12 different species.
A new regulation passed during the year made it mandatory for campers to register at Dubai Municipality before heading out to the desert in winter.
The building department registered and inspected 560 camps and demolished another 107 camps that did not comply with the new regulations.
The new rules were introduced after residents of Al Warqa complained about noise and littering.
