A girl, 4, died after the rope of a flagpole in the courtyard of her family's house in Fujairah became wrapped around her neck.
Police said the incident happened on Sunday night when the Emirati, identified as Maryam Ali, was playing out of her parents' sight outside their house in Qarya village in Fujairah.
Members of her family reported the incident to police as others tried to free Maryam's neck from the rope.
Patrols and ambulance rushed to the location to find the rope still wrapped around her neck after her family failed to remove it. Maryam was taken to Fujairah Hospital but died on the way.
The girl's body was returned to her family for the funeral, which took place at Saad Bin Abi Waqas mosque in Qarya village on Monday.
