ABU DHABI // Eight mosques to be built as part of Jebel Hafeet Emirati Housing Project will be the first in Al Ain to fall under Abu Dhabi Mosque Development Regulation guidelines.
Introduced in 2011 by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, the regulations address the planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of mosques.
The Jebel Hafeet community will consist of 3,000 villas for Emiratis and will also include schools, health facilities and other amenities.
Still under construction, it will stretch across 4.4 million square metres to the west of Jebel Hafeet and 13 kilometres south of Al Ain city centre.
The mosques will both represent the UAE and strengthen communities, said the UPC.
“We are very proud to see the successful implementation of the Abu Dhabi Mosque Development Regulations in the design of the mosques, which ensure that a regulatory framework exists to safeguard the development of mosques across the Emirate that represent our local identity,” said Mohammed Al Khadar, executive director of UPC’s urban development and estidama sector.
“It is vital that Abu Dhabi has a framework to optimise the distribution of mosques and enhance their role within communities, encouraging design innovation while preserving Emirati architectural heritage and ensuring that mosques are built, operated and maintained to the highest international standards.”
Under the regulations, the mosques will also be easily accessible for all worshippers, be they residents or visitors.
