An Egyptian man has been arrested for allegedly killing a Palestinian and burning the body in a bid to hide the crime.
A financial dispute between the men, who were partners in an unregistered business, is believed to have been the cause of the crime, said Abu Dhabi Police.
Police said the Egyptian repeatedly hit the 47-year-old Palestinian with a brick on the head before setting him on fire. The body was found dumped on a street in Madinat Zayed.
The police are still investigating the circumstances and motives behind the murder, said Maj General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, director general of police operations at Abu Dhabi Police.
Col Rashid Mohammed Borshid, head of the CID, said they were alerted by the operations room on December 30 about a corpse in Madinat Zayed. The forensics team identified the man as F K T, a travel agency worker, through his fingerprints.
Police said that A G, a bakery owner in Mussaffah, confessed to the killing and mutilating his victim’s body beyond recognition, over personal and financial disputes.
The case has been referred to public prosecution.
