SHARJAH // Thousands of books have been provided to Emirati families in Sharjah since 2008 as part of a project to help them set up home libraries.
The emirate is providing 2.1 million books to more than 42,000 households as part of the Home Library project. Fifty books have been distributed to each home.
The books were donated by Sharjah’s Knowledge without Borders initiative, under the directives of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah.
The project was supervised by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, head of the initiative’s organising committee.
“This initiative records yet another resounding success for Sharjah’s ongoing cultural project, which aims to empower our young generations to become global leaders,” she said.
“The Home Library project aims to instil a daily reading habit among the local communities across Sharjah.
“Now that every Emirati family in the emirate has a personal library, they will be more motivated and inspired than ever to read and increase their collection of books.”
The Home Library project was implemented in 13 phases from 2008 until last year, reported Wam, the state news agency.
