Tens of Emiratis complete teacher-training programme

The Eedad Programme aims to get more locals into the education field.

ABU DHABI // Another 26 Emiratis have completed a teacher-training programme that may qualify them for a job in a school operated by Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The 16-week programme delivered at the Emirates College for Advanced Education’s Continuing Education Centre trains Emirati university graduates pedagogy techniques, lesson preparation, education concepts and classroom management skills.

The graduates of the Eedad 2017 Programme received a certificate of completion on Monday and will have the opportunity to apply for a teaching job at one of the emirate’s public schools.

The programme was launched to boost the number of Emirati teachers working in schools and, since 2013, 114 students have graduated from it.

“Adec’s priority area is to ensure quality education is offered to all school students alike, and to ensure this is achieved, it is of pivotal importance to recruit qualified and competent educators, who are flexible to education reform and who have background information on ADEC’s Abu Dhabi School Model, which structures the way for all public schools, while ensuring a smooth and rewarding transition for schools,” said Dr Mohammed Baniyas, Adec’s higher education executive director.

Following the training programme, the teaching candidates will undergo an Adec assessment to determine teaching specialties that best suit their qualifications for the 2017-2018 academic school year.
