DUBAI // Pupils will be encouraged to do good deeds through a new initiative by a nationwide happiness programme.

The 100 Days of Giving project is aimed at instilling a culture of giving back to one’s community and was launched by the National Happiness and Positivity Programme.

Pupils can document their participation in the initiative in special notebooks and school-led activities can be posted using a Twitter hashtag, #100_Days_of_Giving.

The top 10 projects will be recognised with certificates of gratitude at an award ceremony, reported Wam, the state news agency.

The project was launched with activities at public and private schools, attended by Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness, Jameela Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education, Dr Ali Al Nuaimi, director general of Abu Dhabi Education Council, and Dr Abdullah Al Karam, director general of Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which regulates the emirate’s private schools.

Adec has also launched an initiative with the national happiness programme, titled Spreading Good. Teachers are to give pupils cards, then do a good dead and pass the card to the person they helped.

The project comes during the UAE’s Year of Giving, which was announced by President Sheikh Khalifa to encourage a culture of goodwill.
