Fujairah dams harvest rainwater and protect against flooding

FUJAIRAH // Construction of eight dams has been completed in Fujairah’s Sakamkam Basin, with a storage capacity of 700,000 cubic metres of water.

Sultan Alwan, assistant undersecretary for water resources and nature conservation, said the dams, which were part of the UAE President’s Initiatives, will greatly help harvest rain water instead of letting it go to waste.

He said the dams will also protect the growing Sakamkam area from risks of floods and downpours which have hit the area on many occasions over last few years.

Mr Alwan added that the Ministry of Environment and Water works towards achieving its water security and sustainability strategy through the improvement of water resource management, and boosting storage by creating more dams and water facilities.
