A popular Dubai teacher was killed last week in a road traffic accident in the emirate. Harriet Burford, from England, was the head of Year 3 at Gems Metropole School in Dubai. A statement was issued after her death by private school operator Gems. “Gems Education was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the life of a highly regarded and much loved member of our teaching staff,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the school. As always in such cases, details are kept strictly confidential to protect the privacy of those involved so we will not be commenting further.” The British Embassy in Abu Dhabi also issued a brief comment regarding Ms Burford’s death. “Our staff have offered support to the family of a British woman following her death in Dubai,” an embassy representative said. Police officials said she was hit by a vehicle but declined to give further details while an investigation was in progress. No time of death or location was released.
