More than 3,000 Dubai students will be given greater opportunities to develop their skills as entrepreneurs after an agreement was signed on Tuesday.
Tejar Dubai, a Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiative, entered the agreement with Injaz UAE, a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide.
Hisham Al Shirawi, head of the expert committee at Tejar Dubai, and Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed, chairman of Injaz UAE, signed the deal at a ceremony on Tuesday.
The main aim is to train more than 3,000 students in entrepreneurial thinking and encourage them to take up enterprising initiatives, the state news agency Wam reported.
It is also aimed at supporting Injaz UAE’s training programmes, including entrepreneurship meetings and events aimed at students from Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Five projects from top students will be chosen each year for further incubation and introduction in the Tejar Dubai development programme.
“The world-class programmes offered by Injaz Junior Achievement foundation are available to more than 10.6 million students annually around the world,” said Sheikh Khaled.
“These top-ranking programmes are in line with the educational and professional requirements of the 21st century.
“The partnership between Injaz and Tejar Dubai will have a positive effect on the students as this will provide them with the necessary skills to enter the highly competitive labour market and to launch their own businesses, so that they can become active participants in the economic growth of the country.”
Mr Al Shirawi said the agreement’s objective was to promote a culture of entrepreneurship in line with the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
It also caters to the shared vision of Tejar Dubai and Injaz UAE to encourage students to develop innovative thinking and skills to become successful entrepreneurs, he said.
Mr Al Shirawi said the agreement directly supported Emiratisation and job diversification plans through training young people in areas including preparation for their working lives and financial literacy.
He said this would be achieved through the support and mentoring of corporate volunteers and entrepreneurs.
