DUBAI // Brighton College Dubai has appointed its first headmaster.

Marco Longmore is due to take up his role in Dubai by January, Bloom Education and the Governors of Brighton College said. The school will open in September next year.

The 47-year-old father-of-two studied history at Edinburgh University before beginning his teaching career in 1991 at George Heriot’s School, becoming head of history at George Watson’s College in the Scottish capital in 1998.

His next move was to England, as senior deputy head at Alleyn’s School in London, before returning to Scotland in 2008 to lead the Edinburgh Academy, which during his time grew to become one of Scotland’s most successful co-educational schools.

“His proven track record at the helm of several renowned Head Masters’ Conference schools in the UK makes him the right fit to lead Brighton College Dubai into the future,” said Henning Fries, the chief executive of Bloom Education.

Mr Longmore said: “Brighton College Dubai will bring the very best of British independent co-educational schooling to the city of Dubai.”

“The excellence of education found at Brighton College UK and already witnessed in the UAE at the Brighton Colleges in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will be our starting point.”

Lord Mogg, chairman of the governors of Brighton College, said Mr Longmore will assist in setting the key priorities for the school launch and enrolment of pupils and recruitment of staff.
