ABU DHABI // Staff at 36 schools in Dubai and the northern emirates will learn about protecting pupils from bullying, as part of a national campaign.
Their participation is part of the second phase of a training programme offered by the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood with the Ministry of Education.
The campaign is in line with directives from Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation and President of the council, reported Wam, the state news agency.
The Protection from Bullying programme started in Ajman schools on Wednesday following the success of the first phase, said Al Reem Al Falasi, secretary general of the council.
The training was attended by 111 principals, academic counsellors and nurses from schools around the region. Both public and private schools under the Ministry of Education are participating.
Twelve schools had participated in the first phase of the programme, which was implemented with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef).
School committees involved in the trainings include social workers, nurses, activity supervisors and school deputies.
They were taught how to spot the different kinds of bullying and early detection methods, as well as how to intervene.
They were provided Unicef guides on social skills and ways to prevent bullying.
