Abu Dhabi University celebrates 10th anniversary with special events

Abu Dhabi University is marking is 10th anniversary with a year's worth of festivities and activities that give back to the students and community.

Abu Dhabi University is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a year’s worth of activities.

“The university is looking back on a decade of excellence, while also looking forward to a new level of unprecedented success,” said Ali Al Dhaheri, chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s executive board.

Several events will be specifically targeted toward students, while others are meant to give back to the community.

A club fair will introduce and recruit pupils to the school’s various student-run organizations, and athletes will be encouraged to compete in football and billiards tournaments. The university will host a mathematics and sciences conference “as a catalyst for tomorrow’s ingenious innovators and breakthroughs,” according to an ADU news release. Students will explore their talents through events like “ADU’s Got Talent,” as well as the GETEX and GHEDEX Exhibitions.

However, many of the fun and games will revolve around uplifting the community and benefiting charitable causes.

Some of the activities launched this year to benefit the community include a recycling contest and a “green world” initiative that will “give a makeover” to beaches, deserts, streets and parks.

ADU will also promote cancer awareness and raise funds toward breast cancer, diabetes and thalassemia causes. It will donate gift boxes to orphans, the elderly and critically ill.

Students will be encouraged to submit innovative corporate social responsibility ideas through social media. The best ideas will be chosen by their peers later in the year.

Recordings of inspirational words of wisdom spoken by UAE’s founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed, and president, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be played throughout the campus.

The school will also honour Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak as the “Mother of the Nation,” while also paying homage to Emirati women’s contributions to society.
