ABU DHABI // NYU Abu Dhabi has announced the recipients of the 2015 Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Scholarship, and 34 Emirati high-school pupils have been selected to take part in an 18-month education programme. The group will take part in the university’s Summer Academy.
“This year’s competition was very intense, with a record number of exceptionally strong finalists nominated by their high schools,” said Diane C Yu, executive director of the Summer Academy and deputy president of NYUAD.
In its fifth year, the programme provides an intense educational experience to prepare Emirati youths in the capital for entry into top English-language universities.
The group was selected for its academic achievement, English-language comprehension, motivation to attend college, leadership and interpersonal skills, and growth potential.
The pupils will learn to develop critical thinking, writing and the ability to discuss matters in English, as well as test preparation, public speaking and leadership.
The academy takes place over two summers after the 10th and 11th Grades, and includes three terms of online and in-person instruction throughout the academic year.
