Dubai Municipality has started building work on slaughterhouses in Al Quoz and in Mergham, at a total estimated cost of Dh47 million.
The projects are expected to be completed by the end of next year, according to engineer Mohammed Mashroom, head of the public projects department at Dubai Municipality.
Each slaughterhouse will include a 1,800 square meter abattoir for small and large animals as well as a 300 square meter barn for livestock. Works also include the set up of a services area, parking lots and internal roads.
Mr Mashroom added the slaughterhouses will conform to green buildings standards, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
