Dubai prosecutors to appeal one month sentence for Roy Nasr’s drink drive killer

DUBAI // Prosecutors say they will appeal against a one-month jail sentence handed to a drink-driver who killed triathlete Roy Nasr.

The website of the Dubai Public Prosecution said an appeal was “under registration”, but no date for a hearing at the Appeal Court has been set.

The Criminal Court sentenced W J, 24, a Filipino, to one month in jail, ordered him to pay Dh200,000 in blood money and suspended his licence for three months.

He admitted being under the influence of alcohol when he hit three cyclists near Safa Park in the early hours of September 6. One of the cyclists, father-of-two Roy Nasr, 49, died at the scene. The other two survived but required hospital treatment.

The defendant apologised to Nasr’s family.

Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
