DUBAI // Dubai Municipality’s waste management department deployed special teams and intensified routine activities to manage and collect waste during the Eid Al Adha holiday from various parts of the emirate, especially from parks, beaches and public celebration points. The teams collected 5,359 tonnes of rubbish.
“Dubai Municipality took all precautions to manage excess waste materials during the celebrations and we deployed a special emergency team who were given directions and an action plan to tackle the situation,” said Abdul Majeed Saifaie, director of the department.
He also thanked the officials and workers who ensured the smooth functioning of the facilities and public places as well as the public who co-operated to minimise the volume of waste.
“We arranged teams to clean up each area of the emirate, as well as an increased number of waste containers to collect excess rubbish generated during celebrations, in addition to sending teams to roam around the city with the task of maintaining general cleanliness,” he said.
The Bur Dubai cleaning unit worked round the clock, collecting 18,400 kilograms of rubbish from main celebration sites.
“Ten emergency shifts were allocated to cover the activities during the nights to ensure cleanliness during the celebrations,” said Khaled Mohsen, head of operations and cleaning services.
The waste management department deployed additional teams on the first day of Eid, including 20 supervisors and 340 workers.
The department also responded rapidly to all 42 waste management related notifications received through the civic body hotline.
