Dubai Media Incorporated appoints new editors in Emiratisation move

DUBAI // Dubai Media Incorporated has appointed new editors in a major restructuring drive aimed at putting Emiratis into top roles.

Ahmed Al Hammadi was appointed executive director of the publishing sector, Mona Bu Samra editor-in chief of Al Bayan newspaper, and Riyad Al Mackdady, executive editor-in-chief.

Khadija Al Marzouqi was appointed editor of Emirates24/7, and Ibrahim Shukrallah deputy managing editor.

Mona Al Marri, director general of the Dubai Government Media Office, said that the new appointments were aimed at boosting the Emiratisation scheme.

“The Emiratisation rates within the media sector have yet to match our ambitions,” she said.

“We look forward to introducing a radical change through mid and long-term plans towards increasingly training eligible citizens.

“Appointing such a cadre of leading figures is only the first step.”​

The latest changes will offer Emiratis the chance “to give a pivotal role for our local competencies because we believe in their capabilities to achieve the desired development”, Ms Al Marri said.

“Locals have proved their talents and capabilities in various sectors.

“We are confident that they are capable of achieving such success within the media sector, which is one of the most vibrant.”
