DUBAI // A cook was acquitted on Tuesday from charges of molesting an 8-year-old while teaching him Quran.
Bangladeshi M A, 34, denied at Dubai Criminal Court molesting his pupil, H M, over a period of three months starting on December 20 last year.
The child’s Pakistani father, O M, 41, said he heard from friends that the defendant taught Quran to children so they agreed that he would come to the home in Al Qusais three times a week to teach his two sons, aged 5 and 8.
“We agreed that he comes on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and he did for three months. He would teach them in the living room and my wife would check on them every little while,” said the father.
He added that one day his son came to him and said that his teacher had been touching his private parts. “I went to the police station and reported him immediately,” said the father.
The defendant was arrested but denied the accusations.
He was found not guilty, though no reason for the verdict was given.
