DUBAI // A labourer attacked a woman in the street, punched her in the chest, then sexually assaulted her, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.
The Indian construction worker, 22, denied charges of sexual and physical assault and consuming alcohol without a licence.
The court heard that on January 31 the Filipino woman was walking home from a supermarket in Satwa at about 10.30pm when she saw the defendant approaching her.
“He grabbed me violently on the private parts so I slapped him on the hand with the bag I was carrying, then he punched me in the chest and I fell to the ground,” sad the victim, 26.
She ran away but a compatriot who saw her helped restrain the offender.
A policeman told the court: “When we arrested him he was completely drunk and said nothing except that he was sorry.”
A verdict will be issued on January 18.
