Abu Dhabi // A Palestinian man was sued by a security guard for heresy.

The Egyptian security guard, A A, who works at one of the capital’s pool bars, said that the 22 year old Palestinian, M M, insulted God, was drunk and started a fight with another customer.

“I went to break off the fight and then he insulted my mother, wife and sister and God,” A A told the Abu Dhabi Appeals Court on Tuesday.

“I did not even complain about the fact that he was under the influence of alcohol or his physical attack on another but I could not be silent about him insulting God and my women.”

“If you only look at the criminal record of (M M),” he said. “He was sentenced to deportation when he was 18 and is now in custody over drug-related charges.”

M M also pressed charges and said the security guard attacked him while trying to break up the fight.

He was not present in court, but his father said his son did not do anything and started yelling at A A to fear God and stop falsely accusing his son.

Both men were cleared by the Misdemeanours Court, but public prosecution appealed their acquittals.

The case was adjourned until March 4.
