DUBAI // Four drivers at a private company overcharged prepaid petrol cards provided to them by their employer and stole the difference for themselves, a court heard this morning.
The Dubai Criminal Court was told that the Indian drivers ST, 43, SK, 45, and EJ, 35, and ZA, 29, from Pakistan were charged with offering a bribe to ZM, an Indian petrol station worker aged 22, in order to charge higher amounts to their company's prepaid cards.
The drivers confessed to the bribery charge.
Prosecutors said the men would refill their tanks with fuel and when they charged the cards, ZM would enter higher amounts and hand them the difference in cash. The drivers would then pay him between five and 10 dirhams for his role.
The prosecutors charged the drivers all with embezzling the difference in amounts they charged the cards. They were also charged with forging the cards' receipts. They denied these charges.
Prosecutors said the amounts taken were less than Dh400.
The drivers were discovered when the company's accountant audited the receipts. They were arrested on September 29 last year.
The court will issue its verdict in May 28.
