Dar Al Ber Society helps 1,500 become Muslims

DUBAI // More than 1,500 people became Muslims with the help of Dar Al Ber Society so far this year.

The charity organisation said it helped 1,511 residents of various nationalities convert to Islam during the first seven months of the year, according to the state news agency, Wam.

Staff members gave more than 1,800 lectures and classes on religious, social and national issues during the same period, said Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, the society’s executive director.

The society’s Islamic Information Centre provides an SMS service to introduce the tolerant teachings of Islam to non-Muslims, said Rashid Al Junaibi, the centre’s manager.

The centre also distributed more than 477,000 publications including books, pamphlets, brochures and CDs. It collected more than Dh462,000 in contributions to support its programmes.

Mia Man’s tips for fermentation

- Start with a simple recipe such as yogurt or sauerkraut

- Keep your hands and kitchen tools clean. Sanitize knives, cutting boards, tongs and storage jars with boiling water before you start.

- Mold is bad: the colour pink is a sign of mold. If yogurt turns pink as it ferments, you need to discard it and start again. For kraut, if you remove the top leaves and see any sign of mold, you should discard the batch.

- Always use clean, closed, airtight lids and containers such as mason jars when fermenting yogurt and kraut. Keep the lid closed to prevent insects and contaminants from getting in.
