Dar Al Ber builds more than 200 mosques abroad

DUBAI // The Dar Al Ber Society has built almost 300 mosques overseas so far this year.

The UAE charity said yesterday that during the first three months of the year, it had built 282 mosques and set up 114 initiatives providing services to mosques around the world.

Dar Al Ber also carried out 88 Quran distribution projects, built 1,743 water wells and reservoirs, supported more than 400 families and completed 204 charity endowment projects.

The charity’s humanitarian programmes included support for 145 medical projects and sponsoring six Quran and Sunnah teaching initiatives, said Abdullah Al Falasi, executive director of Dar Al Ber. Forty-two relief campaigns were launched using zakat funds and 187 using alms money, alongside 150 general relief campaigns and 17 food aid projects. The charity had four projects to support a cancer hospital for children in Egypt.

Dar Al Ber collected more than Dh34 million, used for more than 3,000 charity projects, said Abdulkareem Al Hassan, manager of its projects department.

Dar Al Ber is one of the UAE’s first charities, established in 1979.

It has provided aid in countries including Indonesia, Senegal, Sudan, Somalia, Egypt, China, Palestine, Ghana and Kosovo.
