Woman charged with threatening police in traffic check

Prosecutors say the woman kicked a police car and threatened officers who suggested she was using a fake driver's licence.

DUBAI // A woman driver threatened police and said she would have them fired after they suggested she was using a fake ID during a traffic stop, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard this morning.

NT, 29, Egyptian, was driving her Range Rover when a police patrol stopped her as a routine check, records show. She gave them her driving licence and said all her other ID documents were in Abu Dhabi.

Records show that when the officers asked her about why the picture did not match her appearance, she said she had undergone a makeover.

One officer testified that he stopped the car after checking the plate number and finding 31 traffic violations registered against it.

"She refused to give us her ID and drove away, so we followed her," he said.

He testified that when she arrived at her house in Al Wasl area, they parked their police car in front. She then began kicking it and threatening them, he said.

Prosecutors said the licence she gave them was that of an Emirati woman. She was charged with using a forged official document and threatening the two officers.

The next hearing will be on October 16.
