DUBAI // A female clerk this morning denied charges of human trafficking and running a brothel.
JA, 38, from Uzbekistan, is charged in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with using deceptive means to lure a woman from Moldova, then locking her up and forcing her into having sex for money, records said.
Prosecutors said JA contacted the victim through a friend and promised her a decent job in Dubai.
When the victim, 21, arrived at Dubai International Airport on August 27, 2010, JA picked her up and took her to her apartment near Burjuman, records show. At that point, she assaulted her and forced her into having sex with men, records show.
According to the victim’s testimony in court records, JA seized the victim’s passport.
The victim told prosecutors that eight girls from her home country were staying in the apartment and told her they worked in the sex trade.
She said she was forced into sex with different men in a studio flat near JA's home.
Prosecutors said the victims were also occasionally taken to clients' homes.
According to records the suspect charged men Dh1,000 per night and Dh500 for an hour, and collected the money herself.
The victim said she eventually called police while en route to meet with a client on September 4. Officers arrived seven minutes later, according to records.
JA was arrested in Ajman 10 days later.
The next hearing was scheduled for March 16.
