DUBAI // A suspicious husband who followed his wife to a villa where he suspected her of prostituting herself was today sentenced to a month in prison for assaulting the two women he found her trying on abayas with.

AB, a 30-year-old Emirati soldier, was also fined Dh1,000 for trespassing. He lost his temper after arriving at the villa to find his wife half naked at the villa in Mirdiff and lashed out at the two women - one of whom was the building's owner.

He said he had become suspicious of his Emirati wife NE, 29, to whom he has been married for 10 years and has three daughters, after a recent change in her behaviour. He said she had started earning money from an unknown source after a dip in his financial fortunes and that she began driving a Chevrolet four-wheel drive vehicle she claimed to have received as a gift.

A friend of his wife told him that she had taken up prostitution and he banned her from travelling. She then left him.

The soldier then started stalking his wife and spotted her leaving her father's house in Sharjah on November 22 last year before heading to a villa in Mirdif.

"I saw a Porsche in front of the villa where my wife went and saw two women leaving with the driver," he said, adding that he called police immediately. When officers arrived he asked them to stay outside while he went in to get his wife.

AE, a Moroccan woman, opened the door and told him his wife was upstairs. "I walked in as police watched and found my wife half naked," he said.

Though he denied assaulting his wife, he admitted hitting her with a small plastic stick in defence of his honour.

He said his wife then ran away and that two other women attacked him. He denied assaulting them, saying that he was merely defending himself against their attack.

His wife denied being a prostitute saying she met the Moroccan woman the day before at a school in Sharjah when the pair had a chat about AE's beautiful abaya.

"I went to her house to check on the designs of her Abayas to have some designed the same for me," the wife said. She said she was trying on the abayas when her husband arrived and beat her up.

The Moroccan woman said that the husband had forced open the villa door despite her trying to prevent him from entering and that he then assaulted his wife with the stick. When she tried to break them apart he hit her on the shoulder and leg with the same stick.
