DUBAI // Two men sentenced to death for murdering an Indian salesman will be executed despite being forgiven by his family.
The men, a 31-year-old Russian, SA, and 35-year-old Ukrainian, SN, were convicted in February 2002 of murdering the salesman as they stole Dh5 million worth of diamonds and jewellery in July 2001.
The pair had petitioned the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance to reconsider their sentences in view of a written pardon they had obtained from the salesman's parents.
Their lawyer, Abdul Rahman al Mutawaa, said the family had collected Dh150,000 in blood money.
The pardon read: "We forgive the defendants and hold no grudge against them. We pardon them forever and we certify that we collected the blood money amount and nothing else."
Judge El Saeed Bargouth refused the request and upheld their death sentence yesterday.
