Men risked friend's life by bumping into his car, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // A student and his unemployed friend posed a risk to the life of their friend after they repeatedly bumped the back of his car with their Jeep Wrangler, a court was told on Thursday.

The Emirati men denied charges of risking their friend's life and damaging his vehicle at the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours. Prosecutors said that on June 17 last year, at nearly 3am, the defendants, SK and AM, bumped into the vehicle of SH, who had a passenger in his car.

The passenger, a 19-year-old from the Comoros Islands, testified that the defendants bumped into their car several times.

"They did so because of the problems between them and SH," he said.

He added that he could not see the faces of the people in the Jeep.

AM, 28, denied attempting to run over SH, said there were no problems between him and the victim and added that he does not own a Jeep Wrangler.

AM, who has a criminal record of assault cases, denied being with SK, a 34-year-old student, on the night of the incident and said he was home alone.

SH, a 24-year-old unemployed Emirati, told prosecutors that the defendants were his friends but now they are his enemies.

He said that the Jeep came near his house a couple of hours before the bumping incident and tried to run him and his friend over but they ran inside the house.

"I managed to see them because they had their windows lowered," he said.

SH reported the incident to police, who arrested the defendants in their Ras Al Khaimah residence.

The next hearing will be on July 15.

Mia Man’s tips for fermentation

- Start with a simple recipe such as yogurt or sauerkraut

- Keep your hands and kitchen tools clean. Sanitize knives, cutting boards, tongs and storage jars with boiling water before you start.

- Mold is bad: the colour pink is a sign of mold. If yogurt turns pink as it ferments, you need to discard it and start again. For kraut, if you remove the top leaves and see any sign of mold, you should discard the batch.

- Always use clean, closed, airtight lids and containers such as mason jars when fermenting yogurt and kraut. Keep the lid closed to prevent insects and contaminants from getting in.
