Man caught with 'farewell party' hashish at Abu Dhabi airport, court hears

A railway builder from Italy tells the Criminal Court that his friends had brought some hashish with the to his leaving party, which his wife then mistakenly packed into his bag.

ABU DHABI // A man caught at the airport with a piece of hashish claimed it was left over from his farewell party.

SK, a railway builder from Italy, came to the UAE after taking a job with a construction company. When he arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport, customs officers found the piece of hashish on him.

He told the Criminal Court that before leaving he had a farewell party at his home and that his friends had brought some hashish with them.

He said they left some belongings at his house and that his wife must have mistakenly packed these into his bag.

The case was adjourned to June 20.
