Man 'attacked officer after failing to flee police station when he tripped'

Unemployed Pakistani is accused of throwing the policeman to the ground, breaking his finger in the process

A jobless man being taken into custody tried to escape a police station but fell and was caught, causing him to attack his arresting officer, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old Pakistani was arrested on February 15, though court records do not reveal what he was arrested for. While at Al Qusais police station, an officer was searching his belongings before sending him to the detention cell.
"I was making sure that he didn't have any illegal item on him before we sent him to jail. As I was checking, he ran away but metres away from the station's door, he lost his balance and fell to the ground, so he was arrested and brought back," said the officer, 20.
The man then assaulted the officer, pushed him to the wall and then threw him to the ground, breaking one of his fingers in the process, the officer said.
"He was then handcuffed by my colleagues," he added. 
The man was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer, which he denied in court. He awaits a verdict on September 26.
