DUBAI // A drunk student who drove into one friend before assaulting two others with a sword, has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined Dh2,000.
MS, a 22-year-old Somali, drove into NA before getting out of his car and fighting with his two other friends HA and AD on November 19. During the fight he stabbed both men as well as landing a blow to AD's head with the sword.
The student's 21-year-old sister heard screams coming from outside her house and went to investigate. She tried to break up the fight but sustained a hand injury while trying to do so.
Medical reports described HA's injury as constituting a 25 per cent disability. Court records did not show the nationalities or ages of the three injured people, but NA was described as under-18.
The student denied assault charges when he appeared at the Criminal Court, but confessed to drinking alcohol. He was found guilty of the assault charges and sentenced to two years in prison. He was fined Dh2,000 for the drinking charge.
One of his three friends was referred to the juvenile court on an assault charge.
