A fraudster who faked identification documents in order to secure a Dh159,000 loan from a Dubai bank has lost an appeal against his jail term.
The Pakistani, 35, doctored a passport copy, forged an Emirates ID and presented a false salary transfer certificate to claim he received a monthly wage of Dh12,600.
He provided the bogus paperwork at the bank in a bid to get the loan agreement approved, a court heard.
The fraud took place in March of last year.
A bank worker processing the application discovered the documentation was not legitimate and alerted police.
The trickster was later arrested and brought before court, where he denied charges of forgery, the use of forged documents and attempting to obtain money fraudulently.
He was convicted of all charges at Dubai Criminal Court and subsequently lodged an appeal against the one-year prison sentence imposed.
Dubai's Court of Appeal upheld the verdict.
The guilty party will be deported after completing his jail term.
