'Fake officer' stole Dh50,000, court hears

A Pakistani man is accused of posing as police to rob three men in their home last year.

DUBAI // A man impersonating a police officer robbed three men of Dh50,000 after being let into their home, a court heard yesterday.

S?A, a 33-year-old Pakistani who also is accused of overstaying his visa, posed as an officer in order to gain entry into the home of three Pakistani men in Al Nahkheel in August, prosecutors told Judge Hamad Abdullatif in the Criminal Court of First Instance.

S?A and two accomplices, who are still at large, were said to have tied up the three men with a plastic rope that was later found in S?A’s car. They then demanded to be given the combination to the safe in the bedroom.

When the men refused, S?A’s accomplice, identified as M, is said to have assaulted one of them. The three intruders then forced the safe open and fled with the contents.

One of the victims, a 25-year-old, said that the stolen money belonged to his employer. He said he had been supposed to deposit it in the bank, but arrived at the bank too late to do so.

S?A was referred to the criminal court for the charge of forceful theft and will be referred to the misdemeanour court for the charge of impersonation.

The next hearing was scheduled for February 21.
