Ex-worker killed finance manager over unpaid wages, court told

DUBAI // A disgruntled worker who thought he was owed thousands of dirhams in unpaid salary clubbed and stabbed to death his employer's finance manager, a court heard this morning.

The 35-year-old Indian NM was accused in the Criminal Court of First Instance of hitting the Dubai Holdings finance manager, SR, eight times on the head with a hammer, then stabbing him 30 times.

SR's body was found by police face-down in a pool of blood on the floor of his apartment in Karama on July 9, with a broken hammer discarded nearby.

Friends and relatives of SR had raised the alarm after he failed to return telephone calls.

A Dubai Properties administrative affairs manager told prosecutors NM had worked at the company as a driver since 2007 and resigned in May 2010.

"When I met him during the exit interview, he said that he was owed Dh45,000 and claimed that he had nothing to lose and will chase SR to his home in India if it took that. He said that his family can take care of his children," said the Indian manager, SJ.

Presiding Judge Maher Al Mahdi adjourned the case until November 27, when more witnesses will appear in court.
