Eight men 'locked up and beat man for two days', UAE court hears

ABU DHABI // A Pakistani man has told a court that he was locked up, blindfolded and beaten with iron bars for two days by eight of his countrymen.

The eight defendants at Abu Dhabi Criminal Court are accused of kidnapping and assaulting the victim with the bars and a knife, leaving him disabled.

The accused, aged between 22 and 32, tied the man's hands and took him on a bus to a room in an Al Jaber Group building to avenge a previous dispute with the man.

A medical report said the victim was left with a disability that prevented him from "doing his personal matters" for more than 20 days.

One of the men, HJ, is accused of driving a public vehicle to transfer the men and the victim before issuing a license for it.

The accused men yesterday pleaded not guilty. The case was adjourned until December 17 when defence evidence will be presented.
