A trespassing Dubai policeman who refused to leave a woman's home unless she agreed to marry him has been spared jail.
The officer "turned violent" when colleagues were called in to end his sit-down protest in the living room of the property in Al Barsha, Dubai.
Police arrived to escort him out of the property, but they were forced to arrest him when he refused to budge.
“I tried to take him out, but he started resisting and he hit me on the chest,” said an Emirati policeman, 25.
“We had to handcuff him when he turned violent.”
The nature of the relationship between the defendant and the woman was not disclosed in court.
The incident occurred in September, 2017.
The officer, 26, denied a charge of trespassing but was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison at Dubai Criminal Court in August.
The jail term was overturned on Wednesday by judges at Dubai's Court of Appeal, who agreed to suspend the sentence.
