Police arrested three men in Dubai who threw a party for 100 people in flagrant breach of Covid-19 rules.
A video of the gathering was posted on social media, prompting the detention of a manager of a tourism company, its marketing director and a DJ.
“They had not acquired permission from authorities and ... put the lives of many at risk,” said Brig Jamal Al Jallaf, director of Dubai Police’s Department of Criminal Investigation.
Brig Al Jallaf said authorities would not tolerate anyone breaking rules designed to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Anyone who organises these types of gatherings or invites people faces a fine of Dh10,000, he said.
“These measures have been put in place to protect members of the community and curb the pandemic,” he said.
Authorities have imposed strict fines on anyone breaking the rules.
Police urged all tourism companies, hotels and restaurants to ensure social distancing was in place and refrain from organising crowded events.
