Dubai court rejects appeal of man jailed for killing wife

Man murdered partner before attempting to take his own life

A Dubai security guard who stabbed his wife to death before trying to kill himself has lost an appeal against his ten-year jail term.

The worker, 26, flew into a "fit of rage" after finding his partner in a distressed state, holding a knife and threatening to take her own life.

The husband, from Cameroon, took the blade from the woman and repeatedly stabbed her.

After carrying out the attack, he then stabbed himself six times in the stomach.

The shocking murder took place in their accommodation in Al Rahba, Dubai, on September 7 of last year.

The man was convicted of the premeditated murder of his wife - whose age was not disclosed in court records - and attempting suicide at Dubai Criminal Court in October.

A roommate of the couple said their marriage had appeared happy, but they had an argument that day.

Returning home to find the door locked, he called the supervisor in order to get a spare key.

The supervisor unlocked the door and called police after finding the woman's body.

Police and an ambulance team found the wife’s body in a pool of blood. The defendant was sitting on the floor next to the bed and bleeding heavily from his stomach.

He required hospital treatment for his injuries.

“He said that in a fit of rage, he took the knife from her and began stabbing her. When she tried to run away, he stabbed her in the back after which she fell motionless,” said a police officer in a witness statement to the court.

The defendant's appeal against the severity of his sentence was rejected at Dubai Court of Appeal.

He will be deported after serving his term.
