DUBAI // A doctor was sentenced this morning to three years in prison for locking up and torturing a Dubai Municipality inspector in their self-defence centre.
KW, 26; and YY, 37, were accused of aiding the doctor, YS, 46, all of whom are from China, and sentenced to one year in prison each. All will be deported after their prison terms.
According to records, the three owned a self-defence centre that
JK, an Iraqi, 31, was assigned to inspect on November 23 last year. He arrived 11:30am to ensure they were abiding by safety regulations after he had found several hygiene violations previously.
After finishing his work, JK said, he handed a list of the violations to YY but was interrupted when YS walked into the centre furious and screaming at him.
JK said YS punched him in the face and started kicking him, while YY locked the door.
He said YY tore up the violations list and laughed as YS continued to beat him.
YS and KW carried JK to a chair, where YS began hitting him with a wooden pole.
“This is some of the torture I will give you before killing you,” YS told JK, according to JK's testimony.
YS then continued the attack with a metal bar studded with small nails, eventually telling JK to prepare himself for a fatal blow.
But at that point, YS stopped to take a phone call. JK then jumped out an open window
.
A British man, DJ, who lived next to the defendants’ centre, said he heard someone falling and rushed to help JK. He said JK whispered to him, “Don’t leave me alone, the Chinese will kill me”.
JK was left 25 per cent disabled by the assault.
